13 things you should never flush down the toilet
There are some things you shouldn’t ever flush down the toilet. Here are 13 of them that our plumbers often find blocking toilet traps. For environmental and economic reasons, modern toilets are designed to use less water. It’s therefore important not to overestimate their ability to flush materials.
Items you shouldn’t flush down the toilet (unless you want to block it)
Toilets aren’t wastebaskets, so avoid putting anything in them other than what they’re designed for (urine, stools and toilet paper). Here is a list of 13 things that our plumbers who specialize in unclogging toilets often find in toilet traps (in French only):
- Cotton swabs
- Children’s diapers
- Paper towels
- Cooking oil
- Cleaning wipes
- Cat litter
- Toilet paper rolls
- Sanitary napkins
When people have a clogged toilet, they’ll often try to fix it with a drain cleaner. This may not be enough if they regularly discard any of the items above. They will then have no choice but to contact a plumber to clear things up.
