RBQ plumbing and heating licence subclasses
Any plumbing and heating contractor practising in Quebec must be a member of the Corporation des maîtres mécaniciens en tuyauterie du Québec (CMMTQ) (website in French only) and hold a valid licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ). The CMMTQ represents more than 2,600 contractors. There are several RBQ license classes and subclasses. How do you make sure that your plumber is properly licensed to do your work? Plumbing and heating licence subclasses
There are different plumbing and heating licence subclasses.
Licence subclass 15.1 – Pulsed air heating systems
- Install heating appliances
- Install or replace burners
- Install gas supply piping and connect to meters or cylinders and to burners
- Install fuel oil supply piping and tanks and connect to tanks and burners
- Install wall vents and connect to chimneys
- Connect and install prefabricated chimneys
- Install chimney liners inside chimney flues
- Install pulsed air heating control and regulation systems
- Demolish pulsed air heating systems
- Install air distribution systems and heat recovery ventilators when part of a pulsed air heating system
Licence subclass 15.2 – Natural gas burners
- Install natural gas stoves and fireplaces
- Install and connect natural gas burners in heating units;
- Install wall vents and flues
- Install and connect prefabricated natural gas chimneys
- Install chimney liners inside flues for combustible or natural gas
- Install and connect natural gas radiant heaters
- Connect water heater burners to natural gas
Licence subclass 15.3 – Oil burners
- Install oil stoves, heating stoves, pot-type burners, etc.
- Install and connect heating unit oil burners
- Install fuel oil supply piping and connections to burners
- Install oil tanks connected to burners (underground, aboveground, indoor or outdoor)
- Install wall vents and flues
- Install connections to chimneys
- Install and connect prefabricated fuel oil chimneys
- Install chimney liners inside flues for stack gas or fuel oil
- Install fuel oil burner control systems
- Maintain or dismantle oil burner systems
Licence subclass 15.4 – Hydronic heating systems
- Install heating units
- Install or replace burners
- Install hydronic heat distribution systems (radiators, convectors, piping, radiating surfaces, etc.)
- Install gas supply piping, connect to meters or cylinders and connect to burners
- Install fuel oil supply piping and tanks and connect to tanks and burners
- Install wall vents
- Connect to chimneys
- Install prefabricated chimneys and connect to hydronic heating systems
- Install chimney liners inside chimney flues
- Install control and regulation systems
- Install hydronic heating systems
Licence subclass 15.5 – Plumbing
- Work included in Chapter III of the Quebec Construction Code and Chapter I of the Safety Code
- Install water meters
- Install water treatment systems (softeners, filters, etc.)
- Install waste disposal units
- Install gas supply piping
- Install solar thermal collectors
- Install or replace water heaters (connecting to a power source requires the appropriate licence subclass)
- Install suction pumps for drains
